I am presently looking at the following ship:

I wonder if this might be a good candidate for having it converted into a treasure recovery vessel? It is in good condition, has plenty of space, especially lost of work space and the price is tempting, too.

Any thoughts are most welcome.

Best wishes,

Christian

No Christian . No No No . I know this ship . It is not suitable as a salvage vessel  . It can only be used on rivers and estuaries . Not good to work even close inshore  . It is simply an old party boat for fishermen .    Better to buy a North Sea trawler  . They are not expensive and there you have a sea going boat .   Cornelius

Hello Corenlius,

thank you very much for this information!

It is quite funny you infact know this ship.

One of my concerns had been the beam / draft which is quite shallow, too.

Thanks again for your help Cornelius!

Best wishes,

Christian

Hello Cornelius,

do you think a ship ike this one would be more suitable?

About how do you think one should spend for a decomissioned fishing vessel? The above ship e.g. seems to require lots of work = money to put it back in nice condition.

Can you recommend any places for looking for used shipps? I keep on checking various websites but they do not seem to have many different ships in stock.

Best wishes,

Christian

Christian . That is a nice ship . Do not look at the rust . That will only make the price lower . The things that count are the hours on the engine . The Horse power  and the insurance papers .The GPS and the compass etc  .  I will help you scrape and paint the vessel  Wink    Cornelius

Hello Cornelius,

in order to put for example this ship back in mint condition, what would you roughly estimate it would cost? Another Euro 50.000 ?

Best wishes,

Christian

All it takes is a good inspection . That will determine the cost of bringing her in good condition . There is no other way . Your close inspection will tell you what you are buying .  You will have my support as a Marine engineer . It does not cost you a penny . I am retired and do not need the money . I am here to help you if you are serious  .  Cornelius

Hello Cornelius,

this is a very kind offer and I appreciate it very much. I would be very happy to take advantage of it when looking for a ship.

From what I can tell the ship market north of Germany (Netherlands, Norway, Sweden) is much more attractive.

Thanks again Cornelius!

Best wishes,

Christian

Christian . Always remember one thing , and that is :  Wrecks around the UK islands can be worked on without a lot of trouble . Your salvage vessel should be close to the target to be salvaged .  ( cost of fuel etc etc . ) . There are plenty of wrecks to be salvaged in the UK . They don't make it hard on you when you are working these wrecks . Look at the cost of moving your operation to the Philipines ! Who gives you a sure target ?  It is all in the maybe we are lucky , maybe we are not realm . Christian there are so many wrecks right here that have never been discovered yet . The VOC and the WIC had so many wrecks that it will take for ever to discover and salvage them all . Why look at far away places when the mother load is right here .  Cornelius
