Hi everyone,

Browsing the web, i found this website which is inactive :

You are not allowed to view links.
Please Register or Login

http://www.portup.com/~dfount/sidescan.htm
and used thearchive.org to see how it looked like and they gave a link to this forum on it. But seems that things have changed, the old archive showed a side scan sonar area which had a lot of topics and this one only contains 2 or 3.

How could I fine the old one or find schematics to build my own SSS ?

Thanks for all the help you could provide Smiley

Geetings.

Hello,

the SSS projects have all failed. It is near impossible to build ones own transducers. The only person who managed to build great home brewn transducers is Garry Burton.

To sum up it is unfortunately not possible to buy a good working side scan sonar oneself and there are no plans out there.

Best wishes,

Christian

Sture has passed away recently and did use commercial transducers at first. Yes, that is Garry Burton. To be honest you are better off buying a 2nd hand unit or a Burton. Sture worked for over 10 years on it - and this did not include the software.

Opsss, may he rest in peace Sad

Second time I stumble on the works of someone and that person just died...

I can't buy a 2nd hand unit, since there is not even 1st hand units in my country so i'll  have to build it from scratch...

The old forum was deleted or is there an archive of it ?

I am sorry if I sound negative but as I said it won't be possible for your to build the transducers yourself. Also you would need to buy the Kevlar enchanced cable from a manufacturer. And then you still need a software for it. My recomendation is to buy a Burton M1 Sonar at approx USD 2000,- it's resolution equals that of a 600khz commercial system. It has a limiation being a single chanel sonar only. Otherwise it is a great unit. Building one yourself would take years and sure would almost equal that amount of money.

Regards

Hello Everyone . Christian is correct The cost of buying or building any decent imaging device is still expensive . I am searching for DIY transducers ? Here are two links , the first is great , the second is an example of un-finished Designs or Dreams ?.....Regards......Eugene52

Yes, Sture did very good work. His side scan very really good and he has had many great new ideas which he unfortunately could no longer proceed with. He has had a heart attack last year.

Regards,

Christian
