i think that 60w on 1 transducer is enough power. what power range you should choose?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

in this forum ( and others) was a lot of discusions that main problem for diy side scan , are transducers.
I am an electronic engineer but i know that building sss is high too much demand. Everyday work in 1 year might come with results if start from begining.

best regards
j.

You are an engineer. Good for you. Building a transducer is not the only problem with a side scan sonar project. It's just the beginning.

Think about it. You have a moving boat and sonar which generates a pulse traveling at 1482 meters per second. The boat is moving at an unknown speed so you do have to have speed sensors on the boat. Then you have to have the ability to move the transducer from nearly vertical to an angular displacement which is then tied to image data in 2 dimensions. This is no trivial design task. Absolute positioning information is critical. Then there is the matter of power and reflectivity. The ocean bed is soft and does not reflect well so during your design and testing you will need some hard object in the water. A computer tracking the boat velocity, the angle of the transmitted pulses and the return image of each pulse must be accurately recorded to get a good image.

You're an engineer. Design one.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has the sourcecode for the microcontroller that was available from quest electronics when they went out of business.

thanks
