I think I might have just gotten a good clue for how it works.  I took apart the fishfinder (haven't used it in years), and started examining where the transducer connects to the finder itself.  The transducer cable is a 3 pin mini-din.  Mini-dins are commonly used in AV connectors.  The plug splits off into three wires:  black, red, and white.  I'm praying that the black and the red are the audio wires, while the white is the power line. 

I'm also curious as to whether or not there needs to be a voltage going across the transducer to create a voltage difference for it to work.  Guess I'll have to see.  I went ahead and emailed the maker of the fishfinder.  Hope they're willing to help me out, and not get mad at me for tearing apart their equipment. :Smiley

 thats one way to go about it. Probly want to get the wires right though Cool
  ill have a look at the RoV site, Se if i can pick up a few tips...

Excuse me, but I did not read the whole fishfinder manual in detail.

If the fishfinder only got a single transducer, you might have problems to know from which direction the signal was reflected. Then you maybe need to rotate or move the transducer to find a maximum return value.

Well...
Better might be to use several (at least 3 ?) single transducers to form a simple array to be able to distinguish from which direction strong signals were reflected.

If you need the transducers that came with the Hawkeye Portable Fish Finder (FF3000P).I have around 30 of them that i was going to use to build a SS.I bought a wesmar SS so now i have no need for them.Ill sell them for $15.00 each.I can take paypal as well or a money order.Im in lake mary florida.pm me if anyone wants any.
