Welcome to the forum.  I'm sure that some of our members can aid in advice as well as experience with side scan.  You might also consider checking our marketplace area to see if any of our members may have a used side scan for sale.  Best of luck in your adventures.

Hello Aldo,

well, first of all what's your budget? This will greatly determine the available units. Next what fequency or frequencies are you looking for?

A friend of mine currently has a 100 & 300 KHZ SSS for sale but as it has also a built in sub bottom profiler it is rather costy.

Best wishes,

Christian

Hello Aldo,

well then the Starfish will not work for you as it has a depth ability of only 20 meters max.

The Burton Side Scan (only one channel) is also limited to 200 feet. The Deepvision has a 300 feet limit.

The Yellowfin has a higher rating but is about 13.000 USD and has some limitations, too.

My friend has Canadian Navy Side Scan Sonar with built Sub Bottom Profiler for sale which in mint condition and it is located in Europe. I think his asking price is around USD 9000,. without cable.

Regards,

Christian

How deep are you trying to scan?

I will ask my friend to send you some pictures and more information.

Well, with a Side Scan Sonar, what useally matters  is how wide you can scan and at which resolution. The side can can not scan into the ground. This can only be done by a so called Sub Buttom profiler.

However to get the best result you should basically try to get the tow fish as close to the ground as possible, hence long cables and high pressure ratings come in handy.

Best wishes,

Christian
