Gold in the bank was intended to earn interest. The interest calculation doesn't work so it's just a storage area for your gold. It can be moved to and from your pocket.
Gold is not awarded for referrals.
Gold is not real money but just a means to purchase things offered by members for sale. Your address is requested a the time of the sale.
Everyone earns gold for making a post. You earn 10 points if you start a topic and 5 if you reply in a topic already started. The intention here is to offer an incentive to members to be interesting and involved in the forum.
