another site was down for a while and i noticed some newbies coming over and thats awesome! but now i notice that on the site that was down it was bought up that the site they went to needed improvement(i'm guesssing thats us)....what do you feel needs improving?

bomber i would not worry about it. Several got mad because they wanted things their way and 2 were upset that they had to made 5 post to look at the downloads. We will never make everyone happy at the same time so I think we need to keep our regular members happy and not worry to much about the flybys.

Well, I think this is a very good topic and I would like to encourage all members to write down what they think needs to be improved. I have quite a few things on my worksheet right now and can tell you that the site will be greatly enchanced as far as its features are concerned.

Some of the new members complained that we were applying too much censorship on our forum. As far as I am concerned I feel that thunting.com offers as much freedom of speech as possible. Unlike for exapme TreasureNet any active member can access the whole site free of charge. The site offers unbiased information and there is no limited point of view e.g. disallowing links to other sites etc.

I believe we have a very helpfull and fair staff here trying to help people.

Any feedback is most welcome.

thanks bud,i'm not worried at all........thunting rocks!may not be the biggest(yet) but certanly one of the best,just courious to what they thought needed improving.if its just the 5 posts thats the big complaint(and really how long does that take?...minutes)thats just tough

Well, there has been much discussion about the 5 posts rule. On my German language detecting community it is even 15 postings and it has become the biggest and most popular board within only 2 years. I get hardly any complains there and people are not even allowed to access all boards until they have become a full member.

Infact the only people complaining about the 5 posts limits are the leechers who just want to take and not share and for these folks it has become a good filter.

Personally I see the need for improvements on some functions, the forum layout and bug fixing. Last but not least we will soon have a server of our own giving much better speed - whoch is also needed.

Furthermore I think some areas which do not have moderators yet are in need of a dedicated helping hand.

That's a problem but its just 5 post. A rock and fossil board I am a member of you have to have 50 post to use the buy/sell board because of the fraud.

I think the new server will take care of the biggest problem. As far as the new members who think we apply too much censorship, for every one of those, there seems to be another that thinks we don't apply enough (i.e. we tend to let a topic follow it's natural course rather than making sure each and every post deals with the specific topic in the opening post and only that topic).

More moderators to take on some of the unassigned boards would be nice, but it doesn't seem like we get a whole lot of people who respond to call for volunteers (despite the fact that there are several active members who are very well qualified to be moderators).

Change what we can when we can and make do with the rest until new resources or volunteers come around.

I get more people complaining that we need to censor more not less. Some feel we let things go off topic and should delete post that are not in line with topic. That's just the nature of the beast if the topic is good it will recover.

I am new here and have been to other sites and am a member on one lost treasure online. I happen to love this site. There is so much more information and the good people dont seem to mind listening or talking (typing). Thank you for such a good MD site and I mean that.
