I'll be in Costa Rica in November - in the Tamarindo Bay area.  I'm looking for any help and advice regarding detecting there.

Ideally, I'd hoped to find someone over there to go detecting with.  Failing that, I might by a cheap Garrett.  I don't usually do beaches, so I'd like to find somewhere inland, but with some history.  Beaches would be better than nothing though  Smiley

I'm also finding it difficult to get accurate information on the law out there regarding detecting.

I'd really appreciate and help, ideas, or info you might have.  T ;)hanks!

Hello Lindesy,

Welcome to our forum!

Well, Costa Rica is famous for its Cocos Island (Treasure] which is now a nature reserve.

I think you shouldn't have any problems when detecting the beachers.

However your most secure and best bet would be to write a letter or eMail to the Costa Rican embassay in Great Britain. They sure can give you a bullet proof oppion.

However given the friendly mood of the Costa Rican people I do not think anybody would not want you to do some detecting there.

Good luck and please let us know if you find anything.

Best wishes,

Christian

Costa Rica, HUM.... I led a two week expedition (under government supervision) to Cocos Island and wrote a book about our finds, in 1988. I've detected many of the beaches on both coast and some remote areas. In San Jose, I've detected several parks and found hundreds and hundreds of coins dating from modern to old silver, even coins that were minted when this area was called "Central America", before Costa Rica and even farther back to the "cob" type, minted under Spain, in many denominations, down to 1/10 Real. I never had a problem hunting, of course this was back in the 1980's & 90's.
