I knew the Tesoro History but nothing about that machine.  Did find this bit of info on another forum you may find helpful.  https://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=119506

As for setting in up to run :

Looks to be simple enough.

Preset sensitivity in mid point.  This can be adjusted later to suit ground conditions.  May need to Lower to achieve  proper Ground Balance.

 Ground Bal :

Disc Control to Normal.

Lower  and raise the Coil to a few inches from the Ground.  If threshold Rises approaching the ground Turn Ground Control Left 1/4 turn .  If threshold Lowers Turn Ground Control Right 1/4 turn.  Repeat the process until Little to NO change is noted raising and lowering the Coil.

Tuning:   While Pressing the button with coil a few inches from the ground set tuning to desired Threshold level.  Release button.   Threshold should lock at set level.  While hunting if the threshold should rise or lower , raise coil to waste level away from metal and Press and hold button for a second or two and it should return to your set level.

** If you have ever used a Older Garret VLF your going to feel right at home.
