I'm just starting out on the path of metal detecting and have a Dario MD-3006SS VLF metal detector. I have used it a few times .. not found much just a few ring pulls and some scrap iron etc...oh and a florin (in my garden). But anyhow, does anyone else have one or ever used one. If so, how do you think it compares to other "beginners" detectors.

Here are some specifications of it.
Frequency: 15KHz +- 2KHz
Sensitivity: min 16cm on a USc 25 test object.
Metal Differenciation Calibration:
   23mm dia Copper Coin
   20mm dia Gold Coin
   25mm dia Silver Coin

   Distance from the search coil surface: 80mm

Has the following functions;
  • Ferrous and non-ferrous indicators
  • Ground control
  • Discrimination adjuster
  • Sensitivity adjuster
  • Auto tune button
  • View Meter

When i can afford to upgrade (from my ?25 detector - Aldi Stores) what should i be looking for in a detector?

Thanks for your input    Detecting

Thank you for your response.  I'd forgotten I posted on here and should have announced my success when I did find the documentation.  I ended up finding a quick use guide here:

Nice going .. and thanks for the share ...    Clapp  Cool

I hope you find a lot of stuff with it and wish you success out in the field(s) (or where ever you plan on using it.) I've found tons of stuff with mine .. but nothing yet of any value.
My eyes have won me more valuable stuff.. ohh is that another 10p on the floor.. sweet  Grin Grin

.. oh one more thing ...  make sure you use headphones. you get a clearer sound when detecting stuff, so you can pick up on deeper and smaller items. Also, it saves your batteries loads, as using the loudspeaker eats them Shocked

Good luck and many happy hours of metal detecting  Detecting

Go Up Go Down

Hi all,

Yes I know, this is an old thread. I am just delivering on a request for the instruction manual for the Dario MD-3006SS VLF detector made years ago.  Teach

I hope this will be of some use to anyone on owning this detector and has either lost  Bang Head or never had No no! the instruction manual for this machine.

Today I found the instruction manual  Victory and remembered someone asking about it somewhere Idea. I managed to use some modern technology to finally scan the document and produce it into useable .pdf documents (please see attached). So, in the unfortunate event that any of the links provided previously in this thread should stop working, we still have a copy of the document available on this site.

Over my many years of owning this detector, some simple things to remember when using the Dario MD-3006SS VLF which help you to get the best results out of your machine;

1) Always use good quality, fresh 9V batteries. - failure to do this can result in your machine not detecting to its optimal efficiency and can cause it to wander and not keep a stable signal.

2) Always set up the machine correctly before use or when the ground conditions change (please see attached document). - not doing this can directly affect the detection capabilities of the machine and can cause you to keep pressing the red 'reset' button more than necessary.

3) Use Headphones as much as possible - This helps preserve the battery life of your machine and allows a much longer time detecting in the field. Using the onboard speaker really drains the batteries fast! Also, using headphones improves your audio perception and helps you pick up on those weaker signals; the ones you can only just hear, from smaller/deeper finds.

4) Most importantly read the instructions fully, do some air/soil tests and learn how your machine works in different scenarios.

Persoanlly i've never really used the Discrimination mode (Tr2) on the detector much, and just dug every positive signal. Yes, I have found lots of nails, pull tabs and pieces of junk. But, I personally find that this is half the fun of owning a metal detector, as you never know what you are going to find. It could be an old coin, a piece of a broken metal bracket, a bottle top or just a piece of rusty iron.

Good luck out there! I hope this helps.
