Have already written to the manufacturers to ask if the unit will operate in a salty environment. Has anyone successfully used the Falcon MD20 in nooks and crannies by the sea?

I've used one a friend had checking cracks.   Not around the salt .

Dang thing runs at 300 KHz and Flags on gold so small you can't find it until you crush up the sample.

A bit frustrating to use some times but by Dang, it hits on gold the size of Salt grains.

Yes Homefire...it really can pick up tiny bits of Au. Saw a video in a prospecting forum where it was used. Am hell bent on getting one for inland use...and can check lumps of quartz for any of that yellow stuff inside too!

Would be nice if it's appropriate for salt water environs...found a patch of rocks (prolly another sea volcano's leavings) which are like riffles on a sluice with lots of crannies...figured that's a place where heavier elements would settle when heavy waves wash over them. Smiley

I sure hope it does work in salt environs. No answer from the mfg yet....lets give them 5 more days. I did write to Detector Pro on their Pocket Probe (pulse induction) and they said it would not work for purposes of detecting fine gold; damned speedy reply too. Not many choices in the market for my needs. Sad

UPDATE: got a reply from the mfg. I want one! Below's the text from their reply:

Thanks for your interest in Falcon Metal Detectors.  The MD20 works well in fresh or salt water.  Several of our customers use the MD20 to search beaches for micro jewelry, that is like earing studs with diamonds mounted on them.

Thanks

Wally

I want one of these so bad it hurts! Especially to play around these abandoned mines we have in E. Washington. Most of the mining in Washington came to a screaching halt come WWII. Most of the tunnels and shafts were never recorded, and I have found some amazing tunnels (miles long) that have a blip on the map, but no information anywhere. This toy... errr I mean tool (you WANT toys, you NEED tools) would be a gift from the heavens above!

Are there older models available so I can at least look for a used one?

Please excuse me I need to go wipe the drool off of my chin.

Cheers

Sean

To a point. That Falcon has a 2 in it... just kidding. The Falcon picks up much finer gold than any traditional detector can.

Confucious say: One can never have too many tools.

Cheers
