Nice video and comparison. i might note that the coin when inserted into the hole is in a small diameter "tunnel" so that might skew the readings a bit as the coin is not compressed into the soil.

hello ! i think it is no difference beetwen a coin compressed into the soil or inserted into a tunnel , cause we can see that the Nexus took it , the Deus don't took it at all and the sorex reach a little .

Hello
Goes to show every one how hard it is to detect a large gold coin at 37cm or a little over a 1 Ft. 2 inches distance in compact soil.  Detecting  Thank you for the clip.

Hello
AK48 asked:
Quote:Posted by {author}
do you think a coin inserted into a tunnel isnt equal with one in compact soil ?

Yes the metal detector will 'See or read' the shape of the tunnel.  This one does not have the background to describe this however there are many books that will explain this in detail.
Plus the air is not the same as soil in electrical transmission of radio waves.  There are people on this forum that can explain this in detail as well.
Hope this helps.

good morning ! thanks for the explanation , but i ask : you says ; " the M.D will " see or read " the shape of the tunnel . i agree , but even if the coin is very deep down ? i think that if the coin is deep for example 25" ( 62.5 cm ) the MD will no see or read the tunnel and i know VLF don't goes so far but with a P.I , it's possible to reach this depth . what about if someone can do this test with a pi ?
the ideal is to make a tunnel at different depth an scan it with VLF an P.I but firstely with no coins or anothing into it and then to rescan with coins or anything else into it Huh? what do you think ?
another idea , what about after making the tunnel an inserted a coin , to fill the tunnel with ground and tight it ?
see you soon

Slightly off the subject. Old metal in the ground tends to have a halo effect on the detected signal making it easier to detect. I have had signals that I gave the spot a stomp and the signal disapeared as the surrounding oxidation was disturbed. Any way you look at it the Nexus seemed to be really good on detecting that coin.

hello ! nice explanation man , for the " halo " it's right because i meet it several time with my 2500GTI , an after digging , nothing , so i discover by myself it was oxidation but if you look Thoroughly at the clip above , you see the guy scanning the soil over the tunnel without coin and the detector do not detect anything , and when he insert the coin , the detector shout , that's why i says " compressed into soil or into a tunnel , it doesn't matter .

I hope it will work for you.
Take all those “tests” with a grain of salt as most of them are done for promotional reasons, and that is to sell detectors.
Let us know when/if you ever find a single coin that you didn’t bury yourself at that depth.
