Minelabs (Explorer, Etrac etc) are red hot beach machines if you don't want to go P.I.
Also just about the best for inland (ploughed and pasture) too...
I'll be posting something found yesterday a little later......

HOTTEST= Hmmmm= kinda depends on what you want to hunt for and where= some real hot ones won't work in some areas, or the frequency will not be effective on what  you want to hunt, difference in jewelry hunting, gold nuggetts, meteorites, coins, goes on and on, mineralized soil, beach, mild soil,,  some of the new  Minelabs have different coils with different frequencies, to handle many things, Kinda depends on where you are and what your'e hunting, and how serious you are, mebbe talk it out with Cornelieus and Eugene52, they can sort things out for you, to buy or build Detecting good luck and HH

Cornelius, do you have any benchmark data on the capabilities of the DBP 2010 you built? Such as detection depths of different items in specific ground types? Always interested in learning about new detector functionality and capabilities, whether it is a home made or store bought piece of equipment. Thanks for any info you can share.

thunter . So far I have some benchmark capabilities  : In air     1 Yard =small coil     3 Yards =large coil    . However I am never going to dig that far .   The detector is great for detectying cannon that deep under sand .  Cornelius

I'm in the Northern part of Missouri USA.  I hunt around a field and pasture, mainly in a rural area and occasionally I do wander into the local parks in town and sometimes the lake shore.  My interested hunting section is coins, so I have been looking around for some detectors that hit good on copper and silver, gold etc.

Hm, probably up to the 800-900 dollar range.  I plan to pay most of it with the finds that I will get with my current metal detector, so it might be a while before I get a new one to try out.  I'm just doing this to get some reference and see which I like the sounds of and fits my personal conditions.

Seldom , you want to tell us that the more expensive a detector is , the better it is ?  Where did you get the knowledge on this subject ?  I have been building most of the known detectors and I found out that price has nothing to do with performance  .   Cornelius

I am prepared to spend that much, just in case.  Though I've seen and heard of the Garrett ACE 150 and 250 are both excellent machines and very popular, and they only cost about 200-300 dollars where I shop at.

Here again it depends on where you are detecting and what you are looking for. I do most of my detecting underwater. The Aquapulse is considered one of the best and at $1,400 it is one of the most expensive. The kit has 3 coils and the big 18" coil has been compared to a two-box detector.
