I am sure that you will love your MP3.  I am afraid that you will still be getting pulltabs if you are getting them now.  You can discriminate most of it away but you will also miss gold jewelry and nickles.   Just keep trying.  In my experience thare is no MD that is best for all or that discriminates perfectly.  I do know that if you hear a sound something metallic is in the ground!
cheers,
Mike

Tell me you're kidding!  The ad said the MP3 can tell the difference!  You mean that might not be the case???  I'm kidding.  The whole thing is tongue-in-cheek.  But still it would be nice.

I do underestand tongue in cheek, but the one thing I know is that I have found a ton of pulltabs even with discrimination set all the way to just allow for silver!  Violent

With the big 10"coil thay are also a lot deeper!  I can not tell you how much I love digging up a pulltab at 12"!  No no! I now know why people love dry sand so much!
cheers,
Mike

When I dug 12 inches for a squashed coke can the other day I felt like I'd been sucker-punched!   Angry

I can hardly wait for the 12 inch venture for the pull tab!  I'll be so proud!

mlmcleod -  the MP3 finally got here last night.  I put it together and noticed a few things right off.  Its heavier than my other machines, partly due to that massive coil (aurg ug Tim Allen man-grunt).  The stem does not snap into place like my others so it was a little harder to get the coil lined up to the ground but no biggy.  Doing an air test indoors, if I discriminate out the pull tabs...yep you guessed it, it can't see the nickle or my 14 k gold ring.  Which I knew was going to happen.  BUT....in all metal mode I think I'm hearing a beep/burp on the pull tab and a solid tone on the nickle and gold ring, which is fantastic.  Is that your experience?

By the way, I tried to do a little research on MP digital - the company, and can't find a thing.  I'm sure someone out there has?

Go Up Go Down

The MP3 Pro was my first detector, so I won't go through all the pain I had with it.  I actually liked the quality of the rod setup.  There is no shaking as experienced on other detectors as it locks down tightly.  As for weight, it is comparable with other detectors.  I just gave up on rings after a while.  I suspect that most of those really are found on beaches anyway.

My favorite find was a solid half dollar hit!  I dug and dug. I swept the hole and it was still in the ground and never wavered off the half dollar.  Finally after I had dug a huge deep hole in the ground that was as hard as concrete, I got a beautiful crushed Coke can at about a foot and a half.  So the performance is there although the discrimination is not.  I would love to know how that can got so far down.

I suspect that the MP3 is a house brand developed by the folks at Kellyco.  Just a hunch but I will look forward to finding out the facts.

All in all the econometrics are there, the interface is rock solid simple, but for me the Garrett Ace 250 was the best fit.

Best of luck in all your hunting endeavors.
