hiya guys,,i use an mxt,and have the 12x10 s.e.f. coil fitted ,,its great at most things and makes the machine operate more quietly than standard coils of a similar size ,,its also very sensitive to small thin stuff  i,e, i can pick up a small round piece of foil off a paracetamol blister pack at around 7 inches at preset sens. (the arrow mark),,now my question is i was thinking of another small coil and thought the  small eliptical whites coil would be o.k. but my question is does anyone know if it would be an advantage over the 10x12 s.e.f.coil ? no use gettin another coil if its only as good as the current one ,,let me know if anyone has a definitive answer,,,rgds LB  Round About

Only input I have for you is Smaller coils are hotter on smaller targets and  can be used closer to fences and poles.

Right where do we Start, Well There are at leased 4 coils that Whites Make that Will Smoke that SEF, But if you want a Small Coil for Grubbing around Then Buy the 5.3 which is The Whites 6 inch Concentric Coil it will find targets down to 0.06 of a GRAM and it will go deep and when I say that I mean that it is Not unusual to hit coins at 9+ inches with it and it will work in fairly hot ground, Then If you want to cover a bit more Ground then Go for the 9x5 (6X10) Eclipse this Coil can and Will pull coins from about 10 inches in the right soil in the Right Hands, the Whites 9.5/950 Coil is better on the beach than most and I have pulled coins from over 10 inches withit and it will go deeper and it will see Items down to 0.1 of A Gram or less,
This now brings us to The Shooter Coil yes its Good in Bad Ground but it is hard work to use it in larger areas, and It Give up a Lot of Depth when Compared to the 5.3 Coil, They will All see fine gold Chains and it is a waste of Time Buying After Market Coils when the Whites Own Coils are so Extreme at picking out TINY Items and give Great Depth on Coin sized Targets,

The 12 inch is a Killer and although its a bit heavy til you get use to it, It will woop your 12x10 sef by about 4 inches, and to match it you would need at leased a 15" round coil Not the 15x12 sef, White now make a Round 15 inch coil for the MXTs and its Called THE MXT MAX,  There are about 8 coils Whites make For The MXT so the choice is easy,

anyway I hope this helps,

AU

thank you ,,was considering the 6 x 10 eliptical coil to be honest ,,so now i think i will take a look ,,the reason that i dont have the original 12"coil is that the 12 x 10 s/e/f/ seamed to be more quiet ,,and i think it goes as deeper on the smaller sized targets, or gives a better signal,it also works better on the wet sand, so i like the s.e.f. coil,,but a smaller whites coil will now be on the cards,,,cool, thanks again ,,rgds LB Round About

Quick test for all Coils cut a 1/4 inch square of Tin Foil and test your coils front and rear and then place it on them and you will see how well all coils work then go to and make 1/8 inch square, cut 2 pieces of each and place them on top of selotape One on top of the other and then stick more tape to hold them together like a sandwich and keep the Tape about and inch square so you can handle it easily, then you are good to go,

good luck,

AU

Your correct on that 12". Too heavy for me to use for a long time.  It does have it's place.
