Go Up Go Down

About 20 years ago, I was visiting the Museum of Man in San Diego, a natural history museum in Balboa Park. They had a moon rock display with some large samples under glass display boxes. I was contemplating one large sample thinking of the amazing achievement of mankind in getting those rock samples to earth from the moon when one of the curators of the exhibit walked over to me. He had noted that I was staring at the sample.

We chatted and I asked him why they were under glass. Surely the rocks could withstand the occasional touch of a human without wearing down. After all, the Blarney Stone in Ireland has had billions of lips upon it and seems to be just fine. He told me that the samples on display were still being analyzed. Even after all the years they were in the hands of scientists and that was the reason for the sealed displays. Then he invited me into his office where he produced a few small chips of moon rocks which I could actually handle. Those had been tested and available for casual display.

At the moment I picked it up, I felt an enormous personal pride in the accomplishments of the human race. I had nothing to do with the Apollo Program or Nasa. The only thing I shared with the people who did it all is their DNA as a human being. It's an experience I will never forget.

But I didn't want to taste the rocks. Nope. Not at all.

Hay CW,

We do not play your game.

If you can not contribute anything,

what are you doing here?

All he had to do was tell everyone why he thought the stones were so special. Otherwise, they really are just stones. From a hole. Which, when you think about it, all stones derive.

Yes I agree.

If the stones are special, we have no way to know.

There must be a contribution by the person who submitted the photos.

I think he is offended.

We did joke about his stones.

Maybe he just waited too long to read the responses?

Maybe he thought the stones are so special,

they would speak for them selves.

But,

they do not,

HH,

Tabdog

CW, let me be the second to apologize (because I apologized first already). We are all working hard and took advantage of a moment of humor at your expense. We didn't mean anything by it. Many of the posts I have made here were mistaken by some when in fact all I ever meant to do was contribute to the enjoyment of this great Forum. I have learned a lot here already and I know you can learn too. The guys here feel like family to me already and have sooooo much knowledge to share. If you just give more info about the rocks you brought from the hole I  am sure the people of this Forum will be glad to share you their best insights (and I'm sure their insights will substantial). Come on back, my friend and let's start this thing all over again on the right foot. Take care and God bless always.

GoldDigger1950, All I can say about your museum experience is that with every  word you wrote I could feel the experience like I was there. Thanks for that story, brother.

HH to all,
kd

Thank you KD,

I wish I had said that myself.

I get too bussy and just screw up sometimes.

I think this may be one.

I do like to have fun,

But,

I hate to be so hurtful to some.

CW, I hope you will accept my apology,

Tabdog

Do you really want to? This is a great forum. You could take a bit of time and read some things here before you leave. It might convince you to stay.

first off i'd like to say i think most rocks actually derive from mountains not holes.

and second cw , why get so upset?
if this thread is a continuation of your previous posts, why start it here and not continue where you were?
maybe if the good people here were aware of the fact you can't have a chuckle then maybe it needs to be a footnote in your profile.
maybe you haven't been to many message boards but all the ones i've been to have tought me one thing... if you can't have a laugh (and sometimes that's at your own expense) then the joing a MB might not be what your therapist would recomend.
i'm sorry if your feelings have been hurt, hang around and feel the place out a bit before you decide to bugger off.

 Great
