Greetings !

Looking for input from users of the Delta 4000, both pro and con.

I bought Andy Sabisch's new book "The Treasure Hunter's Handbook" and have been studying the comparison charts at the back of the book. Those charts are a great tool for helping to make a decision on a detector based on personal price range and/or type of hunting.

In my price range, the specifications listed for the Delta 4000 look real good to me. I'm interested in a numerical type TID system, as it would seem to be far more accurate than a system employing a relatively modest array of target icons.

Thanks for your comments.

Todd

The target ID accuracy is not based on the type of display. It's all just a very educated guess. You'll see when you start digging. In fact, if you leave a pulltab behind, it may be a gold ring. That's just the nature of the beast. Those who recover the most real treasure when using a detector are digging every target no matter what the detector says it is.

It's all about that magical moment of discovery when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hi, I'm also a Newbie,

I purchased a Delta 4000 in May of this year and have been more than pleased with it.

So far I have found over a thousand clad coins ( $65.00 in quarters at one church), three silver rings, one silver dime, two silver quarters and one huge genuine imitation gold nugget ring with a genuine, simulated diamond setting.

This instrument is a pretty good coin shooter in my opinion, but it does have it's limitations.  It shows copper pennies as dimes in the icons.  However, after you learn to watch the numbers and listen to the tones you can recognise the difference between them more often than not.  It can't discriminate beteen nickles, bottle caps, pull tabs and other assorted junk.  The places I hunt are so full of trash, that I have given up hunting nickles.  Know that when you notch out nickles you wont get a signal from gold or most jewlery.  Maybe down the road I will learn to use the tone feature and ID numbers better,  I am by no means an expert.

For the money I think it is a very good machine for any beginner.  I will upgrade in the future as I gain more skill.  When I do I will certainly investigate the more sophisticated Teknetics machines.

Have fun, this is a great hobby.
Neil

GoldDigger and LewdLuke,

Just a word of THANKS for your replies !

I'm copying all replies to my files folder titled "Forum member opinions on Teknetics Delta 4000 " , to be reviewed later before making a final purchase decision.

I appreciate the help.  Wink

I find it to be as described. It does the job and that's all I need to go detecting. I like the weight factor. Eventually I will get a small coil for getting near the tot lots poles.
I have found some deeper targets than the other detectors I have used.

I am not a Teknetics Delta 4000 user, but I have been following it very closely as I have had a couple of close friends and family members ask me for recommendations.   Based on what I've read (with more weight given to actual users) the  Delta 4000 is one of 3 or 4 detectors that I recommend they consider if they are looking at an "entry-level" general purpose machine under $300.00.   As a matter of fact if I could convince the wife that we need/can a couple more detectors, I'd be looking at the Delta and a couple of Tesoro's right after I snapped up a submersible unit (which I would have a slightly easier time justifying to her  Wink )
