I currently started using my G2 and need advise on the auto ground balance. As important as it is, I'm not sure if I'm getting an accurate setting. Now, here comes out the manual from Teknetics which says to switch to all metal, set gain at 12 oclock, find a clear patch of ground and use the auto ground button while pumping the coil until ground phase numbers are within 1 or 2. Ok technical I'm not but first of all about impossible to find a clear patch of ground here with all this iron. The numbers seem to jump all over the place. If I lower sensitivity even further while ground balancing to eliminate iron etc, will this affect settings after returning to disc? I usually run sensitivity around 70, but seem to still get alot of chatter and falsing. Thought I'd put this out there as it's frustrating to say the least. Thanks for any help.

Use the all metal mode without ground balance to find a place clear of metals. When you do, switch and set your ground balance. For the most part, the ground nearby will be very close to the same for the purposes of tuning. Now, if you drive 20 miles to another place, you probably won't find the ground to be the same. Or you may. There's no set relationships in that area.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

If your area is high in Iron as it sounds that's the purpose of Ground Balancing.  Give the machine a Known Reference to work with.  As long as you perform the Ground Bal Procedure Not on a target, it should do it's job.
