I recently needed to change detectors because of wrist and shoulder problems. I was looking for a light detector with ground balance, good disc, stable in high EMI areas, pinpoint with good depth. I was sure I needed a TID machine until I saw guy on you tube demostrating a Vaquero. Traded off my trusty M6 for a Vaquero and so far have been impressed. I really like the 8x9 coil that comes stock with the detector(parks, sportfields), but would like to try a smaller coil (5 1/2 tot lots to nugget hunting). There are 2 choices  a widescan (DD) and a concentric. Has anybody tried these coils on the Ciobola,Vaquero, or Tehon?

Comes standard on the Compadre and I like it just fine. The 8 inch coil is an option but it, like the 5 1/2 is hard wired so it's either or.

I will be using the 5 1/2 in widescan with a Tesoro Lobo SuperTraq this weekend.   It will be the first time I've used that coil instead of the 9 x 8 concentric, so I can't comment on it yet.

Dang, I got out to the hunt site and started to put my kit together only to find my wife had bought me the 5 1/2 inch concentric instead of the 5 1/2 inch widescan.......well, at least she managed to get the 4 pin instead of the 5 pin, and since I had stressed size more than type to here, I figured "What the heck, let's give it a try".    The 5 1/2" concentric coil worked like a charm with the Lobo Supertraq.   I can't speak to depth on it since with few exceptions the soil was less than 4" or 5"  in the area I was hunting.  I wanted to use the smaller coil to make it easier to get under the brush and between the rocks while hunting an old railroad construction site that had been hunted often, but still had a lot of trash to deal with.    The pinpoint was absolutely spot on dead center for all targets, including a small centerfire primer cap at about 1 1/2" to 2"---didn't even need to pullout the Garrett THD.   Without a doubt this was the easiest pinpointing coil I've used on any of my machines past or present.   Mrs BA is forgiven, and I'm keeping the concentric coil.

Thanks Aggie, I believe I'm going to try the wide scan. I would say either one would be good with the concentric easier to pinpoint and the widespan with a little large footprint. thanks Cal

You nailed what Tesoro says is the primary difference between the two.  And for where I use mine and the conditions (lots of "trash" -- pieces of tin cans, nails, pieces of old metal siding, etc) not having the slightly larger footprint is probably the better option so my wife did really good when she picked that present for me.
