 Hi All,
I have been searching through the musket balls that I found over the years, and have come up with another that I forgot about.
this ball contains the remains of a "gun flint" when I first found it I didn't realise what it was ,and the piece of flint was bigger I made the mistake of trying to remove it only then did I realise after I broke it that it was too square to be a ground impact, I like to think it struck a soldiers gun as he was trying to draw a bead on the enemy....

Interesting but there may be another explanation. The ball would be more misshapen if it struck a gun so my theory is that the flint was embedded on purpose to give it a better hand-hold purchase when using it to start a campfire. Looks like the ball was split and clamped shut over the flint to me.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
