Hey everybody!
I can't find a whole lot of info on this so I was hoping someone could give me some opinions.
I'm looking to get a coil for nugget shooting with the Vaquero. I'm sold on a DD coil but not sure if the 10" x 5" elliptical or the round 5.75" would be the better choice. I'm detecting in the CA desert and there is a ton of black sand in the washes. the gold they are getting is small 1-2 grainers and up. The Vaquero gets a bit unstable in the heavy black sand with the stock 9x8 concentric and I read I could get better stability with a DD coil. Thanks for any advice you may have, Scott

I would go with the 5 * 10 my self.

Sweep is a bit wider is the only reason.   Cool

You have to weigh the benefits of a small coil versus the larger coil. Sweep coverage is far more important in an unfamiliar area and the smaller coil is excellent for sniping a nugget from productive areas that would have been missed by a larger coil.

The answer? Use the large coil. When you start finding a pattern to nuggets in an area, clear them out with the large coil. Mark the area and go over it again with the small coil.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
