I have owned the compadre and the silver umax....super machines.  very underestimated.  i found good stuff with the compadre.  i sold that and got the silver umax and switched out the stock coil with a 10x12.  fantastic depth - it has found some incredible stuff for me.

i wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I've owned probably a dozen Tesoro units and all have been pretty darn decent. Only one had a meter, the rest were simpler hear it and dig it types. All except one had pre set ground balance. I don't like manual GB on a detector, but I've heard that the three and a half turn GB on the Vaquero or Tejon aren't so difficult to set right. One good thing about a Tesoro is that the company offers the only lifetime warranty in the business.

[great]I've owned many different Tesoro detectors, and yes, they are good detectors and will detect some places where other detectors don't do as well. The Golden Umax and the Cibola were my favorite for land hunting. And the Sand Shark is a good one I've owned for water hunting the saltwater (And I used mine in fresh water a little also).
