another thing I've considered is that...if each coil has to be balanced for the Cibola...you will have to send your machine to Tesoro each time you switch coils. a manual GB will simplify this...unless I misunderstand?
thats the same thing i have been told.-----you have to send it in to get the best performance out of each coil.

Correct to get "best" performance of any particular coil you need to have the detector re-adjusted. Which may in reality only gain you an inch of extra depth or none at all. But, your coil now will be tuned to the detector itself.

And you can actually adjust it yourself after changing coils, there is the ground balance trimmer pot inside the housing on the PCB.
It is very touchy.

To quickly gb the Cibola, turn your threshold control until you get a slight sound. Press and hold down the pinpoint button (now in all metal mode). Bob the coil up and down from about 15" down to 3" from the ground. You want the tone coming out of the speaker to be the same.
If the sound disappears when lowering the coil, turn the trimmer pot to a slightly higher number. If the tone gets louder when lowering the coil, adjust the trimmer pot to a lower number. Once you get the tone to be the same up and down, adjust the trimmer pot very very slightly to the higher number. The GB will be slightly positive for best performance.

Adjusting the GB trimmer pot does not void warranty per Tesoro. As you did not perform any physical modification to the unit. Detecting

Hello.

I have great respect for people who can modify detectors, not so say build detectors. Great

But I have a question, and please, this is not ment to be rude...

A Cibola with GB is called a Vaquero.

I still can't understand why doing the mod oneself and void the lifetime warranty instead of buying a lifetime warrantied Vaquero.

But there must be so?e good reasons.

HH

The Cibola has a different IC chip inside, the Cibola runs smoother than  the V. Shocked

Thanks.

Didn't know that.

Thought they shared the same circuit.

Both are H.O.T. ?

If I understand the warranty on Tesoro it only covers the "original owner" or the person its registered under at Tesoro. If you pick up a used Silver Sabre umax or Cibola then the gb mod is well worth it.If you grab a used md off ebay then theres no telling how many people have owned it. A Vaquero usually sells for $400+ unless you get a used one. You can mod a Cibola or SSuMax alot less and get excellent depth. JR

Tesoro is pretty good, they will generally honor lifetime warranty even if your not the original owner.
Providing no mods were done.

I have no problem using either a SSumax or Cibola with or without mods. And yes it's a super buy to find a used SSumax
and add GB to it. And I have to say the Silver umax is also an excellent machine and can be found at a reasonable price
that can be mod'd.

Your right Sven..I remember buying the Silver Sabre back in the 80's when they came out. The thing I noticed was how lite it was.It had the box under the s-rod. I took it out to an old stomping ground at Champion Hill in Edwards MS and put it on the ground and found a 6lb solid cannonball along with minnies. Now it didn't have but the 7" coil but you could whip it around all day without effort. It was a fun machine and they sure have come along way since then. And I've never sent one in for repair. I've used the Golden Sabre,Silver Sabre, Bandito Umax,Deleon all good machines. Had a friend that used a Cutlass or Compadre I think for when we dug 1800's button in sink holes in south ms. Man that thing could pick out buttons amongst iron. Plus the resale on the Tesoros are pretty good. I grabbed a SSumax because it breaks down compact so well for my motorcycle traveling. Just great little machines with a big punch.JR
