I have owned many detectors and some were simple units. The compadre with its 7" coil was one of them--it worked really well in trashy places-had 12kh and was a decent little tool. I am sure the 5" coil they are making for it now will do wonders in really trashy places and may even be better than the 7" one I was using. I may get one and find out-ha! Great

I ran one for a while. I liked it. The 5' had decent depth and was great in the trash. I sold it to get my Deleon, Beale.

My Compadre is so light and small that I can keep it well hidden in the back of my vehicle at all times. It's always ready to go and is a top performer despite its simplicity. The only criticism I have of the unit is that the coil does not have a Faraday shield on the sides to minimize interference by fence posts and such. In fact, that's something I don't like about most coils on all brands.
