Here is my first try at making a "coil steady" for my Tiger Shark and Stingray II 8" coils.  Kinda screwed up on the pivot bolt hole but will do better on the final version.  This is a little harder than the one I made for my 10" EXcelerator coil on my Beach Hunter ID (Last Pic).  On the 8" stock coil the "steady" has to have a cut out to fit the coil mounting lugs.  Anyhow here is a couple of pics for those interested.

Tesoro "final steady" made!  One on the left is first try and the second is the final.   Right picture is "Final" shown mounted on 8" coil.   Thanks

Welcome aboard from Oz.

This is an interesting and well made item but do remind me again why this is necessary? I want my coil head to be adjustable for varying search positions and this seems to lock the head in place. The reason manufacturers make their head adjustment so "spongy" is to allow give in the head postition which has the overall effect of protecting the equipment from damage. Plus it allows for checking trees for stashes in the hollows, walls, ceilings and rock faces. The only use I see for this is if you are only treasure hunting on level ground.

Am I missing something?

For me I like not having to readjust the coil after having laid it down for the digging.  I also find it helpful when in swift river current as well as pulsing surf.  I think the little bolt that came with the stock coil is too small for the job it has to do.  Hit a bump and would knock it out of level.  I increased the bolt size up to a 1/4".  I  also am not prone to scrubbing the coil on the surface and like a fixed and level coil which is always parallel to the ground.  Guess it all boils down to the type of hunting you do and what makes the hunt comfortable for me.  Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I understand now. I wouldn't ever want to defeat the flexing of the coil which is there to prevent damage to the shaft. Have you priced a plastic replacement shaft lately?

I guess I don't use my Tiger Shark or Beach Hunter ID as a high speed weed wacker or a pry bar.  "LoL"  I've never had to replace a lower shaft on any of my detectors before.  If I'm land hunting I use my MXT or Eagle II SL for that purpose.

Thanks guys!  Did ya'll, that's Texan, happen to see my mods on my White's Beach Hunter ID?  Guess I just can't leave things unmolested! LoL  It worked out pretty well though.  Check it out over in the White's Brand Forum.
