over here pentechnics do a conversion to change the trident 2 (vaquero) from 14 to 18.5khz just wandering about the pros and cons ,would make it more sensitive to the tiny bits but would it take any depth away? and perhaps more chatter?

That is an interesting question.

That frequency of 18.5 kHz is higher
than the Tejon.

The Tejon is said to be very sensative
and chatter, but the Tejon is pushed
to its limits in sensativity in other ways.

The Vaquero is more stable.

But, raising the frequency may tend to
de-stableize.

It should also make it more sensative
to small gold, small buttons and lead.

The Vaquero does not have as wide of
an exceptant range. That may tend to
make it more stable than the Tejon.

I would be interested in knowing what
what effect raising the Operating kHz
on the V would have.

Thanks fer the info,

Tabdog

I have just purchased a Trident SI.  I used it in the field for the first time last Sunday.
First impressions are very good, it is stable and very sensitive to small items and,
has a fast recovery rate.  I used it with the discrim below the iron setting and had to
dig a bit of large iron, but eventually I should be able to identify it.  I'm hoping this
machine will increase my finds rate on a site that has produced some small Anglo-
Saxon bits and pieces.  After ground balancing I used the detector super tuned.

Hay Bazzar,

With my Tesoro machines, I have no problem IDing iron.

Big iron will tend to give most machines some response.

I do not try to discriminate it out. Only the small stuff.

I simply know iron responses, big or small.

Heck, I was in a field plum full of pull tabs today. I did
not dig a single round pull tab. I heard every one, but I
just dug sounds that I liked.

Pull tabd are harder to me than iron.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Hi, find an iron nail and turn up the disc until it has just been rejected. don't go any higher than pull tab or you may loose any small hammered coins.
