Howdy. This is for Silver uMax folks... I am curious as to whether or not you have found gold jewelry and if so, what do you think are the best settings for the Silver uMax to find small gold rings (such as an engagement ring) and the such? I have been using mine for a few months now... have found silver etc... but no gold (yet). I am learning though. Seems for a small Gold engagement ring, about 3 inches under, if I discriminate, I lose that at "Iron" already. Larger mens size engagement ring, I may not lose until I hit the start of Tab. Anyways, what do you think are the best settings and methods for finding small gold (earrings etc) with the Silver uMax and have you found any yet? Am beginning to think AM mode - only? Or disc at Iron and dig all "rounded" hits? Anyways, for all the Silver uMax users, please feel free to share any tips etc... for this machine.

Thanks.

As with all detectors, any discrimination at all may cost you in terms of gold finds. Even at the lowest range, gold chains will not be found and at pull tabs, almost any gold rings will be gone. Experienced detector users will use the tone discriminate mode. That's the one that allows your ears and brain to figure out what's down there. Even when I truly believe there's junk down there, I dig it. In 99 times out of 100, it is junk. For the other 1 that is not junk, I smile a lot.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Was thinking about that last night. I know exactly where I found it. But, I don't recall getting any other signals within a two feet circle where it was dug.
Have to go back, only a 7 minute walk to the beach.

It was found on shore about 3 feet from the waters edge. No the clasp was not busted. Maybe I'll get lucky
