I am thinking i would like to upgrade from the Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 to a Tesoro. I want one i can use mainly for detecting for coins and jewelry inland with maybe some looking for gold nuggets, as well as an occasional trip to the coast to beach detect here in Oregon. Would the Vaquero be a good choice for this type of use? Or should i just stick with the Bounty Hunter for this type detecting? Thanks for any advice.

Hay Rebel,

There are some variables here.

As far as coins go, the discovery
can probably do as well as a
Vaquero. The V has a little more
depth. Lot of people may not
agree, but that is my opinion.

But on jewelry, it is tha Vaquero
hands down. The depth can be
amazing on small peices of gold
jewelry.

The Vaquero will find small gold
nuggets better than the Discovery.
I believe a lot of that may be the
difference in operating frequency.
But it has to do with circuitry also.

For all around detectors, the
discontinued Eldorado is better
for prospecting than the V.

Not many VLF detectors do real
well in wet salt sand. That
includes the Vaquero.

I honestly do not know if the V is
better on wet salt beaches than
the Discovery. I do not have any
salt beaches in Arkie Land.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

I agree with that.

I have used some of tha BHes.

I would not use any of them.

But I like jewelry.

If I was just a coin hunter,

I could use either. Except

tha V likes nickels a lot

more.

Thanks guys for the replies. Sounds like the Vaquero might just be the way to go. Great

I have a chance to possibly pick up a Cibola for around $200. Would this be as good, better, worse than the Vaquero and would $200 be a decent price for one that is 3 months old and like new?

here is the diffrence between the 2 not a huge diffrence

The Vaquero

The main part of the Vaquero's versatility is its three and three-quarters manually adjusted ground balance that works for both the All Metal mode and both Discriminate modes. This will give the detectorist the power to set up his machine to best suit the mineralization conditions that he is working in and his personal treasure hunting style. The Vaquero adds an ED180 discrimination feature to filter the trash from the treasure and a Push Button Pinpoint that makes digging up the goodies that much easier. The discriminate knob is also used to switch into a threshold-based All Metal Mode.

MicroMAX Design
VLF 14 kHz Frequency
One Drop-in 9V Battery
Variable Threshold
3 3/4 Turn External Ground Balance
 Ultra-lightweight Design
9x8 Monolithic Coil
3-Piece Knockdown Pole

And the Cibola

The Cibola combines H.O.T. circuitry with turn-on-and-go simplicity. It is designed for the treasure hunter that does not want to bother with too many controls. The Cibola is named after one of the fabled seven cities of gold that the conquistadors were searching after and will simplify the search for any treasures to be found.
The Cibola's main search mode is an ED 180 Silent Search discriminate. A threshold-based All Metal is accessed by the Push Button Pinpoint mode. The ease of use for the Cibola makes it the perfect detector for both the metal detecting novice as well as the treasure hunter that has been around for a while.
