Tesoro Vaquero & Compadre

Could'nt figure where to ask this question. Went over to circuits: Tesoros Eldorado, my Dad had one  the smaller I think uMax, it had a 9 volt battery powering the circuit in the unit. Is the Eldorado shown the earlyer model because it shows 12 volts powering it, instead of the last 9 volt model ?

I was interested in the Eldorado information because I own a Conquistador uMax and might make a GB modification like Sven's Cibola GB mod.

Thanks for the answers in advance  __  HaRM

Disraguard the earlier post as I bought a Vaquero today so I would have a machine with GB & don't need to mod the Conquistador uMax. Still don't know why the voltage is listed at 12 volts...Instead of 9 volts.

Two diff circuits, older big component parts needed more power to operate over a longer period of time.
Newer small (SMT) parts require a fraction of the power.

It's more problematic that that, Sven. When someone reverse engineers a schematic and they aren't correct, the false information becomes true. The schematic is not an official schematic from Tesoro and there is an error in the voltage. That's all there is to it.

Warning to all DIY types: Do not take a reverse engineered schematic as a real schematic. It may be correct or it may not. Never assume that it is correct. Always question it.

In this case, 12v is indeed harmless to the device as Sven points out. But that is not the recommended voltage. The person making up the bogus schematic probably believed he would get more battery life with more voltage. All the extra voltage does is make the regulators work harder.

Thanks for the reply SvenS, that makes lots of sense. I've run accross many electronic circuits that are entergy hogs.

Sorry, did'nt see your post till I scrolled past that pesky advertisement   Lips Sealed  It is the nature of the beast that people believe what is in print as gosple, we all should question things more for sure. The old Minelab PIs used high than recommended voltages for increased debth to, Ive been told, not just longer run times.

Only one circuit in the Minelab benefited from that. The rest were overdriven circuits and some even heated to destruction. You have to be very careful. In general, CMOS circuits can operate with voltages from 5v to 16v. Two 12v batteries generate a combined voltage of 24v and going beyond that can cause even the most robust CMOS devices to turn into silicon slag.

Just be careful, those who try to increase power by using bigger batteries.

LOL, Not 18V.       They use one battery for the detection circuit (9v) and one for the Audio circuit (9V).

Huh? 2 x 9volt batteries = 18volts, It certainly wont work on just one battery.Had mine for about 7 years now, great little machine Grin  along with my GS+ SS+ B1(laser) Rapier (laser)
plus many more.

Sir You are wrong.    They may be using two batteries in Parallel to up time of current but not 18V.  Sorry.
