In looking at metal detector sales sites I see that the price of the two machines (Vaquero/Golden uMax) are about the same.  Are there enough differences to make one better than the other for coins and jewelry.  Probably no water hunting here in the Ozarks.
And would one of these detectors be an upgrade from my old White Classic II.

I think that would depend on the type of detecting you would want to do.

Both would make formidable Coin machines I would think.

I'm not much of a Bells and Whistles kinda guy.

I seldom use Discrimination.

Being a Gold Chaser, I would opt for the Vaquero.

It has Manual Ground Bal.

Discrimination.

Runs at 14.3 - 14-7 KHz.  (Better for Gold Nuggets)

The ?Max

Running at 10KHz would be a little better on the silver and a wee bit deeper due to lower freq.

Auto Ground Bal Would not work worth a hoot around here.

Multi Tones for those who like them  (They would drive me Nutty)

Adjustable notch window for those who would use it.  (NOT ME)

I traded my Golden, but still have the Vaq. I didn't like the tonal separation on the G, middle tones were hard to distinguish apart, depth was lacking(compared to the Vaq) my nickel count was up with this machine, good coin jewelry machine around parks and homesites, depth seems to max out about 6-7 inches. The Vaq hits deep(10+ inches on a clad dime) gets coins at 6-8 inches regularly(not set in boost mode). Runs smooth even on salt beaches, if you want to coin shoot(cherry pick) just set the disc at 1-2 o'clock position and go. Both machine are fast retune so multiple targets come through well. If you have mineralized soil get the V for sure.

Thanks.  That is the kind of info that will help me make my decision.
