A digital LC meter is not a must for the one that wants to build his own metal detector coils but it sure is nice to have it. If you have Gary?s inductance calculator (I did a comparison of the calculator and the LC meter and I was very happy to see that the results were the same) I did however wanted to have a quick way of seeing the result in the coils with out having the pen and paper on hand not to mention the calculator that always seems either to have a battery that is missing or discharged. I did a search on the net some time ago but did not find quite what I was looking for till I found this site.

The LC meter works very well but I did find a problem with it ?it dose not want to measure the yellow caps it comes up with either Over Range or it gives a value of 250nf for a 100pF (strange) this dose not bother me in the least as I really want to use it for inductors and coils. I did some testing with known inductors and the result was surprisingly accurate under 1% of error. As for the PCB that is on their site it has five jumper wires and the board is rather big so I re-drew mine with Dip trace and still ended up with two bits of wire soldered at the back of the board due to my stupidity (I omitted a 1000pF cap) any how the board is now the same size as the LCD (and was supposed not to have any JUMPER wires).
