Well amigo Seldom, it looks like Penny must have found the Lost Dutchman, packed out all the gold and has cashed it in, so is now on permanent vacation in Tahiti!
 Shame

Without some pretty solid proof, I don't think that we can call the Lost Dutchman a misnomer by any means.

Oroblanco I just went and reread this thread and I had flashbacks to the 70's LOL. You and some of the other old timers here (like me) can relate.

Back in the early 70's when I started the treasure magazine's were very popular and the letters to the Editors was the forums of today. 6 or 7 times a year someone would claim to have found the Dutchman or the Beale treasure and that would be the end of it. If you ever got a up date it was the same as here government got it before the hunters got there. LOL Or its all a hoax etc etc etc,

Seldom, as the cowboys say boy howdy you sure nailed it.  What surprises me are not that so many are making the claims, but that none of them seem to ever be aware that others have also made the exact same claims, and that none of them ever has so much as a speck of ore to show.  It is always matching up the clues, finding a hole in the ground etc which in all likelihood was a hole dug by an earlier treasure hunter that also matched up the clues to that spot, found no gold and left it but no research is done by the modern claimant.

They have been claiming they found it at least as far back as 1895, but in the older cases, the person(s) making the claim pretty much always had some gold and ore to show, which turned out not to be the right kind but that did not take much away from their discovery since they made money from a rich mine.  Today we have a bunch that don't want to do any of the actual leg work, just look at some photos and make claims for honors and percentages just from that alone.   Bang Head  You should read some of the nasty private messages and threats I have received, for simply asking to see photos of some gold ore when a fellow claimed he found the LDM!   Shocked No no!

Good luck and good hunting Seldom and everyone, I hope you find the treasures that you seek.

Hola amigo Flower of the Sea, - yes have to agree with you there, it takes all sorts!  That particular fellow had plastered his claims all over the net, contacted the white house and other govt agencies even movie stars, really looked like a strong need to get attention more than anything, but when I pointed out that ore could settle the issue and without it, his claims were no more than what dozens of others had made it really set him off.  He was not the only one to make threats but made enough of them to be a nuisance, and he stopped without having to call any police.  I don't know why some folks take it as a personal offense if someone they never even met simply doesn't believe a rather outlandish claim.  Heck no one believes me if I say the sky is blue and I don't get insulted at it!   Grin

Hello Oroblanco

I am sorry to hear about you receiving a threat over a treasure legend. Sadly some people become obsessed with self belief and become blind to all else as they have convinced themselves beyond doubts in here minds they are correct. They take objective criticism personal attack on their integrity. Unable to resort countering awkward questions they descend into insults or deepen into personal threats.

Sadly in what ever Forum you post in you will come across these people. And even more sadly is they forget the whole perpose of a forum is to debate a topic with like minded interested people.

Hardluck
