Posted on: December 12, 2010, 09:37:36 AMHere's a little info from the looks of this its not good

On July 11, 2010 Curtis Meriworth (67), Ardean Charles (62) and Malcolm Meeks (60) went missing in the Superstition Mountains looking for the mine. One of the men became lost in the same area in 2009 and had to be rescued. On July 19, the Maricopa county Sheriff's department called off the search for the lost men. They presumably died in the summer heat.

Photodog:
It was in the news a few weeks ago that all three skeletons were found. Summer is the wrong season to be in the Superstition Wilderness.

The Lost Duchman claims more lives.   [nono]   I guess not a surprise.

One of the people (of the 3) had been rescued the year before from the same area. (because he had a cell phone)

They went in the summer with not enough water or supplies, guess gold fever does that to people.

My brother & his daughter were involved in the first search when they first arrived and the relatives back in Nevada called the shariffs dept. worried. They had helicopters & people on the ground (even with dogs). You never know if the people were hiding from searchers or wanted to be found.....Paranoia & gold go together.

Harm

I would only add that the remains were found by a fellow treasure hunter we know named Rick Gwynn not a hiker, and the one man that search and rescue had gone out for the year previously had actually walked out on his own, coming out at the lake.  The family had gotten concerned and called for the search, and he had missed the trail so hiked out.  The men had brought in extra water and cached it, and had umbrellas for shade, did their hiking after dark apparently to avoid the worst of the heat but still ended up in trouble.  So yes summer is not the best or safest time to be in the Superstitions.  Only a treasure hunter would have gone up where those men ended up.

Good luck and good hunting amigos, I hope you find the treasures that you seek.

Hello All

Thanks for all the updates. Like with all exploration in the wilderness one should be prepared for all things that could happen.

The Supers seems to be one such place that can be unforgiven.

Hola amigos,

As the cowboys say, 'boy howdy' do you ever have that right, the Superstitions can be a most un-forgiving sort of place.  Like a woman - beautiful and dangerous!

The other missing man - Jesse Capen of Colorado, still has not been found.  His last camp site near Kane spring is the end of the trail, but hopefully someone will find him soon.
