Does anyone have any positive experience MD'g in dry creek beds?  How about present-day creek beds that are dry because long ago a creek's course was redirected?

Input, experience, tips, tales would be most appreciated.

Thanks, kindly

- CheetahCats

Logic should tell you that the general geology of the area would come into play in this sort of endeavor. Southern California is a rabbit's warren of dry riverbeds, some of which might produce gold depending on their location. I don't think anyone could give you much advice on this one without knowing where your riverbed is. Ancient riverbeds often are a good source of fossil shells, teeth and bones.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

It also helps to know if you're searching the creek bed for gold nuggets or for relics and bottles.  And, as GoldDigger says, where makes a difference too.   If the creek is in an area where it consistently ran with water year round, you'll hunt for nuggets in the same areas as you do on live creeks.   If it's a creek that was dry most of the time, water didn't have as much opportunity to concentrate the gold for you, so there won't be any hard fast rules.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.  It would be the latter that BitburgAggie_7377 mentioned -- I'm looking for relics.  The active creek and also its dry segment runs the perimeter of an existing, small, old town that dates back to colonial times.

In that case, I'd suggest spending some time with the oldest maps of the area and/or looking for foundations or cellars close to the creek.   Then i 'd search the portions of the creek nearest to the old houses and/or the old roads.
