I found an old canvas army surplus bag, about 1.5" wide and 2.5" long with a piece of plywood in the bottom.  It is perfect as my 'war bag'.  It is large enough to carry my MD, broken down, extra gloves, a small shovel, as well as basic survival gear (toilet Paper)!
I also have a small but powerful magnet, and I use old pharmacy prescription bottles for small finds, as film cans are getting hard to find.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Included among all the regular items you've listed, since 1970 I carried half oz pure silver bar and a 5 peso gold coin in my wallet in order to accurately set my metal detector. This was in addition to regular coins in my pocket. This method paid of many times.

That list is pretty comprehensive but I would add a small magnifying glass; matches; a shop towel or something similar to wipe my hands, a small brush to clean off a find; snake proof boots or gators (for obvious reasons in Okla); a pair of waterproof boots kept in a plastic bag in the trunk of the car is handy if you do any shoreline or puddle detecting--the plastic bag is where you can stow them if they're wet or muddy or just a place to keep them and your car trunk organized.  A friend also uses an "Old Hickory" 8" knife to cut divots out of lawns which he keeps in a homemade sheath attached to an army belt bought at an Army-Navy Surplus store.  In fact, these are great places to round up some field items such as the snake gators, ponchos, knives, canvas bags/pouches, etc.; rubber tubing for a tourniquet comes in handy and can save a life if bit by a venomous bug or snake.  Whistle on a lanyard is handy and so are the hand held GPS units which have become very reasonable and will work better than a phone because they operate on satellite signals, not cell phone tower signal strength which is hard to find in some rural places.

All you need now is a 2 ton dualie to carry all this "essential stuff".  (:-)  Yep, I was a boy scout!

I also carry a little flashlight, since I often detect in the Winter (on the beach) and tend to lose track of time.

A collapsible water bucket is good to have to wash off finds or to carry stuff you find.
