Here in Utah it used to be that if you found something valuable and turned it in to police and no one claimed it, it was yours after 60 days. That law was changed so that after 60 days and no one claimed it, it goes went straight to the general state fund.
I'm not sure that a safety deposit box is a good thing either, because banks are only open on certain days and times. And today there's the danger of a "Bank Holiday" where they're closed for a few days, maybe never open again. It has happened.
I've researched coin buyers back east that will buy your coin collection, some down in Mesa, Az, that will pay you a flat amount like $900.00 for a double eagle.
You definitely need to plan ahead and don't act hastily. Be calm and play it smart.
