Did they have a garden? A lot of people would put their money in canning jars and bury them in the garden

 Welcome from N.S. Canada.
Around here, it was said that the old folks would put money above the entrance way, the corner stone of many places around here have held many items, like coins, jewels and other small items. Fire places were good spots too. If your property has a stone wall, it would be good to look in the north west corner, this was said to bring good fortune to the homestead. Check the basement floor, if it is dirt and someone has buried something there, it will be soft there then around it.and the stone foundation as well may hide a can or jar behind a stone.
