could some one give me some website addresses to search for stories or where to look up old county maps in specific regions?

Google your town and/or state with the words lost treasure- buried treasure- lost mines- ghost towns etc. There are 100's if not 1000's of places with list of treasure leads by state.

Actually, I AM being serious with that recommendation.  If you go to the home page, scroll down the list of boards until you get to "General Discussion By Location".   It will be down towards the bottom of the list.  There you will find a board called "USA" with a sub-board for each state.   Open up the state you are interested in....besides a possible wealth of other information, including ghost town lists (some states have more topics posted than others), you'll probably find a topic started by LabradorBob.   That topic will have EXCELLENT links to several sites covering maps for that particular state.   LabradorBob is a map afficianado and has put together some outstanding information for us.
