I am just now starting to explore Google Earth and am looking for hints on how best to use this resource. I am in Brisbane Australia with an itch to go out into the country to find some old sites.

Anyone out there use Google Earth? and if so, can you give me some hints about what to look for?

Also anyone out there ever tried using the overlay function with thier antique maps? What results and how did you do it?

GE is a great tool for hunting.
I've used old aerial photos and matched them up to find old properties where there were houses, etc.
You can place location markers anywhere, and turn back the clock to 1991, and more  Shocked

I find it good in conjuntion with Programs like Mine Cach and others works good .

Just looking at the layout of the land and river beds is good for mine Prospecting times.

Thanks.    I use Google Earth --- a lot.   Never know when you'll pick up a new trick, though.

Homie, that looks like a good software for the gold logging in Google Earth,,,, all I need now is the gold  Great

BitburgAggie_7377, glad you like it,,, I use overlays quite often... lots of great uses, even for adding a photo of a building that used to stand on a site  Great

Thanks, Peter. Very informative.

I too, use GE a lot. Any tips on using it removes some of the veil of mystery from the results.

GD, I must admit, I also love this piece of software.... It is amazing  Great I cannot remember how now, would need to find out again, but you can also put Google Earth into 3D mode where you use the colored glasses to see the 3D, could also be useful  Idea
