Things we read that fire us up to run out the door with a detector can be totally bogus. Always find as much info about a lead as you can. I ran across this lead in an old treasure mag and had to share. It's just a vague lead with several errors, but the kicker is the location, it's not even in the right state. Stephen Meeks and party never made it as far south as Nevada  Smiley Researching first and cross collaboration of details is important.

Ain't it the truth.  A little research can save a lot of sweat (not to mention time and frustration).......and remember--just because you read it two or more places on the internet (or in two or more newspaper articles) doesn't necessarily make it so----both places could be quoting the same erroneous source.

I completely agree. While reading various treasure hunting blogs, I've seen several examples of leads that appear to have been copied & pasted. Many "sources" seem to be more concerned with content than accuracy.

Yeah, this is a BIG problem when idiots "scrape" content from the web to populate their blogs. They make money from ads on their site so they really don't care what the content actually says.

yep, that is so true. I would never go out on a hunt without verifying multiple sources, no matter how good the story might be.

I think you are correct , out of work writers and authors who ran out of good ideas themselves still have to  make a living . So what stirs up everyone's attention ? Treasure Hunting stories !!  So they will find old newspaper articles , books of old Treasure Stories , old myths and old wives tales and spruce it up a bit . Treasure maps and directions to areas that are hunted out already .
A lot of stories posted here on our forum have some merit but like you say everything has to be checked out from reliable multiple sources before you invest money on extra equipment , and travel expenses  .
We have had a few crazy and bizarre treasure stories/leads posted here and the one's responsible are no longer on this forum !! This is a great topic thanks everyone for posting !!
