Hello, does anyone out there know much about foundations? I'm always looking at houses and was wondering which foundations were the oldest and which ones to look for. If you have any links, they are much appreciated too, thanks for looking!!

My father owned a foundation construction business before becoming a sheriff's deputy. I know all about modern foundations (last 20 years) but never had much experience with older foundations. The oldest foundations here in western Washington are only 150 years max.

I did however dig up this site with lots of info on determining the ages of houses. Hope it helps you some.

Thank you for that site badger! Not only did it cover ages of foundations, but also different wood types, styles of nails, insulation, etc. What an amazing site! Kudos and thank you very much!!
