Here is the maybe hardest part to make for a DIY.

tumbler bowl

These things are just a bowl on springs. The vibrating is from a motor with a small off-set weight. Pretty low tech.

It was a harbor freight vibratory tumbler which they were touting at the time as a rock tumbler. Oh- it tumbled alright but lasted a whole 3 weeks. These things should not even on the market as far as I'm concerned.  Everybody on the  tumbling board knows about these lousy products also. My adage again is- "you get what you pay for". A quality product shouldn't have to be sent back in the first place.

Steve

Thanks for the information. Do you have a link to the tumbling board you refer to, I would like to see what the forum has to say on the subject. Thanks

oRo,
just home from snagging one of those "rock cutters" you found and posted about at HF.

Thanks again.

It was not a "bottom of the line" item, not at all.  I'm pleased with it.

Thanks again...
and ayup, it was $59.99 instead of 89.99  & 21month no extra charge service contract...teehee.

What a fun forum!

Do the tumblers you have/use at work, have tops that seal or clamp closed during tumbling?

Do you have any pictures, or dimensions, or a supplier's/manufacturer's name or brand name visible so we could research them on the net?

Thank you.
Ms. Megan

T/Y, outback.  That gave me some great ideas.  Appreciate the URL a lot.

My largest tumbler has a 2 foot by 5 foot heavy steel drum. I have used it to make pretty stones up to softball size. It can also be used as a rod-mill that will reduce 4 5-gallon buckets of rocks to dust in about 30 minutes. For amalgamating I use a Thumler's Tumbler model UV-18. Sometimes it cleans my Colt45 brass when reloading for wheel gun hunting loads. I like 300 grains at 1200fps HPFMJ.

I wouldn't expect anyone to use a $20 tumbler for anything but lightduty work.
