just a thought, if anyone here gets to the business end of hunting, is there a wise system of how to approach it, as am guessing if anyone found a big find then its scary territory for any one person to handle.

especially when you hit the legal levels, conversing with various countries, licenses, legal actions, rightful owners staking claims, goverments, green eyed monsters lurking at every corner.landowners, international law etc etc etc.

1.so in essence, what is an ideal team to build for big finds?

2. who are the big boy players in this field...odyssey? / frank goddio? / fischer?/ national geographical?/ treasure channel?

3. is there enough savy and clout within this site here to build a team?

Pick up the latest copy of National Geo. Mag , Treasure Edition, very good reading especially about what Mel Fischer had to go thru after he found his treasure. Some great photo's and reading in this issue, and a real Treasure map also. I still believe silence is the golden rule when it comes to finding Treasure, but for the big finds its a different story.......DW

1.so in essence, what is an ideal team to build for big finds? What Ever is needed.  The Less the Best!  That would depend on the Location of the find.  Was it a Claim?  Private property, Contract with the Owners?

If your talking about International Waters that's one thing.  State waters like the Fishers did is another.  Odyssey is getting there throat cut by there own country and was in International Waters.  /color]

2. who are the big boy players in this field...odyssey? / frank goddio? / fischer?/ national geographical?/ treasure channel? There is NO Big Players until someone finds the goodies.  Then The wolfs and Vultures show up.  This is why it's best to keep the Yap Shut until your in possession of the goodies.

3. is there enough savy and clout within this site here to build a team?
Smart Savy folks for sure.  Willing to Invest?   Not Sure!  I know as a fact some folks that frequent this forum have the Know How and Fortatude to Fight for what THEY found and the Government or others claimed as theres.  /color]

wuz, you may know England and most of Europe have a system worked out to take care of the "green eyed monsters" which will surely come out if you make a big find in the US. Their system is called out in law in great detail and is necessary to protect archeological treasures. Without such a system the first thing the finder would do is pop out the stones and put the treasure in the melting pot. The system England uses garuntees some of the profit to the finder and the land owner if the rules are followed. I don't know how well it works but it is probably better than on system. Gambol

England has a very good system in place and seems to work to some extend, but I would bet that for every treasure turned in 3 or more are never reported. Its to easy now to sell antiquity's and relics thru the black market heck you can sell them on ebay.

As for big players most you will never know who they are or what they recovered. The only reason you hear about odyssey is because they seek out publicity. In my and several others opinion odyssey is a bunch of con men.
Fischer?/ National Geographical?/ Treasure Channel
Fischer?/ National Geographical operate on grant money they are not treasure hunters they are archaeologist with a camera.
There are several members here that are major players in the sunken treasure world. There is also several members here who are major players in the buried treasure world. If you read between the lines you can figure out who some of them are, most work alone or with a small group and live by the GOLDEN RULE  KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

Amen to that. The only exception for me is a find of significant historical value. I found the site of an original township (founded circa 1649) a long time ago and turned the information over to the local historical society for research and preservation. Got my name on a plaque for that. Woo hoo!
