Police drug dogs are trained for it. I wish mine would smell banknotes and coins as well as he does chicken bones. We'd be very rich by now.

By the way, this subject has been discussed in the past. Use the search feature to find it. It's a worthy topic so look it up and see what was said in the past.

Hi Guys

I'm sure that this could be done especially with strong smelling metals like copper. I do wonder about gold though?

Being a noble metal, gold is not likely.

Yes it would but he could only bring things back if he can smell it needless to say that gold has no smell but that copper and bronze have a strong smell simple test to do is rub your finger on a piece of copper even clean you will have a smell on your finger.

I believe that Gold does have a smell, if your nose is sensitive enough and you don't smoke (all natural gold has some other metals combined) and I KNOW that it has taste (for the same reason) because that's how I used to grade my nuggets and rings when in the field. I've proven this to many sceptics... I also recall reading that the Spanish preist trained dogs to sniff out gold deposits by starting the puppy off nursing on their mother who had gold dust rubbed on her tits.

I don't know, why bother training a dog......seems to me with a little pratice my wife could sniff out gold in the field, I mean she seems to smell it at just about ever mall in the area.....unless she on the hunt for a new purse.  Muhahahah
