Building my own

 [detecting]I modified an old Allied Services sluice box I had to include:

1) added ribbed rubber material used in newer sluice boxes at the upper end.
2) added a classifier which fits over the top of the normal design so only rocks smaller than 3/8 of an inch will be allowed in the sluice box.

I will try this new design up on the East Fork (San Gabriel Mountains) north of Orange County CA this Thurs or Friday.

I did the same with the classifier.  Built a Box type classifier and just set it over the Head end.

Worked for me.
