Knowing your detector is the most valuable of all. As the dectectors have got better there is no excuse for wasting time digging most common junk. This is time you could be finding something valuable.

Hello Everyone !! Two of the most important tips that have not been mentioned yet !!!

1. What I use is a composite Digging Kit , which consists of non-metalic hand shovel and a soft Brass Pic-Probe .  $19 Dollars
2. Canvas Drop cloth for keeping your neighbors yard Clean  Grin and faster target recovery if coin drops from dirt wad . Around $11 Dollars

This is not recommended for people who love to scratch coins  Shocked Grin Grin

Best Regards..............................Eugene52

It's not on the poll list and not in the three pages of posts, BUT....I don't even leave my house without RESEARCHING a site. Without this it is blind hunting.

Case in point; My nephew is rennovating an old house. I asked if I could detect his yard. He says "Sure, there ought to be something there. The place is a dinosaur, about a hundred years old".....I did research and through three generations of owners, found that the place was built in 1891 and the first owner died suddenly of a heart attack in 1915.

Now...this was at a time when people didn't trust banks AND this property was fifteen miles from the nearest bank anyway..... Guess what I will be keying in on.

Bud

Here's something no-one seems to have mentioned yet, always recheck your spoil heap once you've made your find, there's often more than one item in there.

I always lay my spoils on a plastic sheet, so I can move it to another spot I have on several occasions put the spoils on top of something else and its also easier to pour the dirt back in the hole leaving no mess.

regards Mike....... :Smiley :Smiley

A site is never hunted out.

That's what I retain from 25 years of detecting.

One tip no one has mentioned is take a good look around before you leave a hunting area. A lot of times there are trails leading into the Park or Playground that people have used for years that no one has bothered to search and can be full of coins and other goodies

Hello , I hope this tip has not been mentioned before . If you buy the Best/New Metal Detector on the market , that is also the best you have ever owned.  Go back to all your old "Good hunting Sites" , Chances are very good you will find more great stuff !!!

 Great...........Regards........Eugene52
