Myself and a Pal hit the beach this AM just after sun up ... Plan A hit the crapper when we saw the rough surf, so plan B was put into action and we grabbed our land machines ... Working the zone, caught a little clad, and then this nice 14k with 10 diamonds (unknown blue stones, any guesses?) made an appearance. The whites mxt 300 gave it a VDI of 8. Almost left it sitting there as junk - goes to show that he who digs the most trash gets the most treasure. My pal got about a dollars worth of clad for the 2 hours we gave it.

Good hunting!

First off congrats for the great rings you always find and for living by a beach site. Secondly, I liked your statement above very much and that's what I'm doing digging all the low tones for gold. Yes I have dug lots of pulltabs, but also many nickels. No gold rings yet, but I foresee them coming  Wink

You're blue stones look a little dark to be blue topazes, so I'd guess that if the diamonds are real, the stones might be sapphires.

Im not familar with the whites but as you almost passed on it why do you suspect the ring has real stones. Why would the band not show as a higher value, ( Au, Ag or Pt ). I am new to disc machines, ( new explorerXS ) and with my XT18000 I dig everything. I am trying to understand the criteria used in the decision.

Ok, assuming that once you read this you will be a good member of the community and go to our New Members Introduction page and post a short introduction so the rest of our members can give you a proper hello, I'll give you a partial answer because your question is good.   I'm sure GD or one of the more technical folks will jump in with a more complete answer and will also correct anything I misstate.

Discrimination is not perfect---that's why we always recommend digging every signal, especially when you are learning your machine.  Things like soil conditions, the size, shape, relative density, composition, and angle of the object can all effect the response you get back (or at least the interpretation of the response) as can the speed and angle of the search sweep.  Rings are especially susceptible for a number of reasons including the fact that a lot of pulltabs and odd pieces of aluminum respond in the same range as gold on many machines.   Add to that the hole in the center can cause the response to be interpreted as two separate targets rather than a single target and you can start to see how it would be easy to miss a ring---especially if your getting tired, frustrated, or are just feeling lazy.

Now, please, go to the new user introduction board and introduce yourself.  It doesn't have to be long, or intimate, but it does help if you let us know what your interest are and how long you have been swinging a detector.

BA
