Well Belgium is expensive but on the other hand if you are having any health issue they will take care of you no matter what, money is not the object getting you better is. A medical aid is compulsory and if you cant afford one then one is given to you so in that respect Belgium is the best place in the world. Taxes are high, as an employer you will be paying about two times the salary of your employee in taxes and insurance and other that I do not even know about like strikes are covered by these taxes. As far as the weather goes well it's not as cold as in the USA and we do not have all the snow you guys get but we have more rain than you. cars are a pain in the but because you cant do anything to them you are not even allowed to put bigger tires or change the carburation system as everything has to be standard. I don't think that metal detecting in the parks is allowed here never tried and never seen any one doing it either and besides that I don't like people looking at me when detecting, I like to have me time for me and for me only. We have quite a lot of castles and dungeons that can be explored that much I do know but I have not been to any of them yet because they are all far from me and money is an issue at the moment.

Thank you very much for your vision of Brussels. Every place in the world has its do's and don'ts and they vary dramatically. I just try to enjoy the best of what the place has to offer, and sort of put up with the crappy stuff (unless there is a legal way around it). CASTLES! you say.  Shocked Boy that sounds like fun. We have this mandatory health care now, but it is not free. If you don't purchase it there is penalty. You are not required to purchase it if you are already retired and have what is called Medicare Insurance. The cost is deducted from your monthly check. Almost no one likes it, except the ones making money off it.
But given a choice to live anywhere in the world,  I think the US is my first choice. I like the ideals for which it was founded on.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Tis sad me bouy that the soil is so hard on the coppers.  here the acidity in the ground from pine trees has the same affect.  Good luck on your next outing!

Good luck Xavier. Hope you have to hire a lift truck to bring it all home.
