Go Up Go Down

I went to another of my Landlord's orchards today for just about 45 minutes. I was successful inasmuch as I found 4 coins. 2 were small coins and I doubt that I will be able to determine their age or denomination due to the corrosion but they appear to be the same kind as the others in the 1850's that I have found.  I then found what appears to be a very old coin but due to the deterioration, I will be impossible to determine age, etc..It was also made of a different type of metal but anticipate it to be of the roman age. The final coin that I found was a King Louis XVI 12 deniers coin but I could not determine which year (I could read 179X but could not read the last number). It was in fair condition considering it's age. Last week I found a 1712 King Louis XIIII (I know that we write roman numerals XIV but the coin had XIIII  photo previously submitted). I will try to get back to that orchard this week...Coloma Gold

Yep.... gotta get a better camera for some of the coins. Although I can read most/some of the items on the coin, they are very difficult without a top notch camera. On some, we try to use the magnifying glass to enlarge and then photo but sometimes that doesn't really work. I'm going to get a desk mounted magnifier equipped with a light... that should help..Thanks Guys.
When I went out yesterday, an old guy was watching me from afar. When he approached (he spoke only french) I explained what I was doing and just happened to get a hit on a target at the same time. I then unplugged the earphones so he could hear. I dug a piece of dirt and placed it in the sifter (like normal). After some time not being able to locate the target in the sifter, I took out my pin pointer and was able to demonstrate it to him also. Almost immediately I located the target (neither of us could see it despite getting down to the bottom of the sifter). Luckily, it was a 1800's copper coin (now green) and he was really surprised that it was in the sifter all along (only coin of the day). He was also surprised that someone could find an old coin in an ordinary orchard.. Really neat to see it from another persons perspective. Coloma Gold

Way to go, Coloma!  Good find, and great PR for the metal detecting hobby all at the same time!  Thanks for that!   Detecting

One trick you might try if you have a flat bed scanner is to scan the coin using the scanner.

BA,  do you mean a scanner on the photo copier?  I'll try that....Otherwise, what is a flat bed scanner? Coloma Gold

Scanner on a photo copier may work, but I'm actually talking about a scanner like you would find on an "all-in-one" printer like these :
