Go Up Go Down

long day of hunting a very large almost mansion of a house built in the 1850's thats being torn down next week. Top from left to right, pre 1982 coppers with 18 wheaties, the oldest wheatie being 1913, dont know how many coppers in there. next lil bucket is all the zinc blobs 1982 until now. didnt count those either call it a "shitload" must have dug 75 pullatbs today  Round About half the zincs were found in a 2' square area from surface to 12" down, looked like a dirt wishing well lol. Found 2 small caches, both under large trees. One had $3.87 in clad all in a pile, the other had $2.39 with 2 silver dimes and 9 wheaties in it, and a 1941 nickle.  Next row down on left, gun and toy gun parts, a handle to who knows what, matchbox cars. 2 mason jar lids (always check to make sure there isnt a jar onuder there full of coins!  Mad ) a silver plated butter knife and spoon. Look at the size of that water nozzle!! the one on the left is normal sized, the one on the right yyou could use for strengthing your biceps!! lol. A busted off knife blade (guy tried to rob me and he broke the knife off in my skull so I tore his arm off and beat him to death with his own arm LMAO! hey its my story stfu and listen dammit! Theres a spooky little white doll under there and a gold plated who knows what it is the folds up next to the doll. Back to the left gold plated hasp in great shape, assault rifle bullet, a gold plated medallion with an anchor symbol and a cross above it. a bronze? plated token. a gold plated button with foreign writing, maybe latin? A 1921 sunoco commemoritive keychain (came out in 1968) A quarter thats seen better days. A really nice 2000 D sacajawee? dollar spelled wrong I'm sure. A really nice and really greeen and bronze colored 1890 indian head penny. A plated keychain in bad shape,  and that water spiget thing is hollow and silver plated brass, looks like the valve used to actually work but its frozen now. A mini pc with busted lcd (maybe they got that to replace there harmonica and banjo? lol) . Take a look at the pic of the butter knife...I accidently broke it in half trying to bend it back into shape, look at the break!!!! its gold filled!!  WTF? who plates gold with silver? and no its not copper in there, the spoon is silver plated copper which is the norm, I thought it was all made that way. Exhausting but fun filled day, I forgot to put the clad in there, its soaking and when I went to the sink I found a bunch  more relic stuff soaking that I forgot to post also. I'll post those later. If I have time tomorrow I'm going back there. I hit the whole yard today fast, only digging about half the repeatable targets cause I got tired of all the pull tabs and zinc, lead shot, nails, foil, and the rest of the trash. I'll put the 4' coil on the F4? hmm... I'll bring it along, I want to get those deeper targets and get old coins and jewelry, but it makes sense to get the trash outa the way or use the 4" to get around as much as I can first. Not sure what day the demo is, so I want to get all I can this weekend and before they do it, then hit it again after they move all the dirt around. There's 4 more being demolished on that street alone. Its in almost the oldest part of our town, I'll try to remember my camera and get pics of them and the historic landmarks on that block to post later.  Smiley Smiley

Thanks, cant wait to do a solid search on one of those on that block.Got permissions from a few more people on that street to search their old houses today also. Thats a good way to get good finds, a hot sunny day, go for a bike ride in the oldest part of your town and catch people outside and ask  Cool

Go Up Go Down

a lot of our town is being bulldozed at the moment and lots more to come.
i have been wondering when would be a good time to try some of the empty lots.
seems most are being scraped back hard and shingle put down so might not be much left to
find, although it might be too soon to go try it, might be seen as a sort of looting?!   Undecided
of course the town centre is out of bounds and will be for a couple of years yet
i'd say. i'd have liked to have tried some of the old pub sites.

but anyway! good going, look forward to seeing some more pics

cheers,
JJ

Go Up Go Down

Start with doing the history of your town or area. Where are the oldest parts? Imagine how roads, bridges and the commerce areas were in a buggy before cars. get a list of all city, county and state owned properties, or get in good with the contractor thats tearing them down and get a list from him, search before and after.. dont get caught inside, every one of these had the doors broken open and could walk right in, dont do it! Also you can search online alot of cities or take  the address you want downtown and ask. Doesnt matter HOW you get the first one, thats your ticket to getting all them in that neighborhood. Be nice (it kills me but I am sometimes lol)First thing is walk around with a trash bag and get the trash if any, pick up all the trash in the yard in front of them and the neighbors. If its really dry dont dig plugs or bring a garden sprayer of water with you to dowse it good. I tell everyone I leave a property better than when I came and I always do. Take your toys , mathbox cars whatever, and give them to the neighbor kids to pickup trash for you. see a neighbor that needs a hand real quick offer to help them and strike up a conversation with them. I always "talk" while detecting if I"m approached and look busy unless its a neighbor lol, then Im a total suckup  Grin
